Erika Maria Schroeder (nee Hoffmann) of Mequon, Wisconsin, formerly of Cincinnati, passed away peacefully on August 11, 2011 at age 101+.
Erika was born on March 5, 1910 in Chemnitz, Germany, immigrated to the U.S. in 1937, and married Walter Schroeder.
Erika was preceded in death by her husband in 1990.
Erika is survived by her three daughters: Helga (Jerry) Meyer, Bettina (Harry) Kollman, and Ingrid (Philip) Matthaei; by her seven grandchildren: Heidi (Dan) Heredia, Eric (Lorraine) Kollman, Natalie (Brian) Larson, Gretchen Kollman, Christopher (Katie) Matthaei, Mark (Jennifer) Matthaei and Emilie Matthaei; by her nine great grandchildren: Scott, Justin, Isabella, Bettina, Amanda, Clarissa, Katelynn, Brynn and Andrew; and by her relatives in Germany.
Erika was fortunate to celebrate her 100th birthday in good health with her entire family. Erika's interests and activities while living in Cincinnati were singing in the church choir for 40 years and with the Community Choristers, the Hyde Park Music Club, Tri Psi Sorority, the Schlaraffia German Society, gardening, swimming, skiing, traveling.
She enjoyed her last five years in Mequon with her growing family. Erika owes her longevity to good genes and her daily oatmeal. The family thanks the friends in Cincinnati at Marjorie P. Lee and also the staff at Newcastle Place in Mequon for their loving care.
Private interment will be held at Spring Grove Cemetery in Cincinnati. A Memorial Service will be held on Saturday, October 15, 2011 at 11:00 AM in the chapel of the Hyde Park Community United Methodist Church. Memorial donations may be made to; "Music Fund" c/o HPCUMC, 1345 Grace Ave., Cincinnati OH 45208 in lieu of flowers.
