Carl was working as a machinist at an airplane factory.

Second marriage:
He married Mary Shirley (1897-1972) on September 7, 1927 in Bradford, Merrimack, New Hampshire. She was also known as May Shirley.

Children:
Stuart E. Milner (1928-c1965), Shirley M. Milner (1930-?), and Grant F. Milner (1932-?).
