Paul Beaudoin Sr.; retired Navy man started X-ray and construction firms:
Paul E. Beaudoin Sr., a retired Navy hospitalman who founded X-ray and construction firms during his 25 years in San Diego Hospice. He was 57. Mr Beaudoin, aresident of Lakeside, died of malignant mesothelioma, a form of cancer frequetly linked to earlier contact with asbestos.
While stationed in 1971 at what today is San Diego Naval Medical Center in Balboa Park, Mr. Beaudoin started Southwestern X-Ray Corp. in East San Diego.
The firm sold $600,000 worth of X-ray equipment during its peak years in the 1080s, said Betty Jean Beaudoin, Mr. Beaudoin's wife.
In 1976, Mr. Beaudoin became a general contractor specializing in radiation shielding. He buily 11 veterinary clinics in San Diego Country from 1990 to 1993.
He was diagnosed with cancer in May 1995 and donated his body for medical research.
A native of Boston, Mr. Beaudoin grew up in Chelsea, Mass., and joined the Navy in 1956. He served as a hospital corpsman, X-ray technician and biomedical equipment repairman before his discharge as a hospitalman first class in February 1975.
For more than 20 years, he was a member of Alcoholics Anonymous, attributing much of his success as a businessman to his affiliation with the organization.
In addition to his wife, he is survived by two daughters, Angel Beaudoin, of El Cajon, and Tammy Williams, of Treasure Island in the San Francisco Bay Area; three sons, Paul Jr., of El Cajon, Walter, of Savannah, Ga., and Rene of San Diego; four stepchildren, Cheryl Tanner, of Fairbanks Ranch, Douglas Methena, of Pasadena, Burney Burton, of Camarillo, Bonnie Port, of Escondido; and 15 grandchildren.
Services are scheduled for 2 p.m. Saturday at Our Lady of Perpetual Help Catholic Church Lakeside. Donations are suggested to the San Diego Recuse Mission or San Diego Hospice.
Paul's first wife and mother to his children was Evelyn Jeanne (Bruce) Beaudoin. They were married in Duval Co., Florida in 1959. To this union were born five children which are stated above in his obituary.
