WINIFRED FLORENCE ROBERTS A 54 year Fremont resident and native Californian was known as Grandma Winnie to all the neighborhood as well as many extended family and friends. Her gracious heart and caring ways touched the hearts of all who knew her. She was born on April 14, 1912 in San Francisco on the day that the Titanic sank. She died Sunday, February 9 at Washington Hospital in Fremont, after leaving an unforgettable mark on the community. A loving mother, grand-mother and great grandmother, Winnie spent her days at 90 years young by baking for others, driving herself as well as friends to meetings for various organization events, playing bingo as well as participating in activities at St. Joseph's parish and at the Fremont Sr. Center. Grandma Winnie was known by all for her delicious cakes. She made wedding cakes for many Fremont residents, and was famous for her wonderful cream puffs. She was an avid sports fan and loved the Oakland A's. Winnie is survived by her sister Elvira Brusati of San Rafael, her brother Roy Canham of Menlo Park and 3 sons, Edward J. Roberts & wife, Doreen of Fremont, & Gerald A. Roberts of Fremont, and Vernon L. Roberts of Oroville. As well as her granddaughters, Kristin Glavin and husband Shawn of Fremont, sandy Roberts of San Francisco, and Jennifer Roberts of Colorado, and great grandson Nicolas Glavin plus other adoring family members. She was preceded in death by her husband, Toney Roberts in 1977, and her 3 brothers Lloyd F. Canham, Bill A. Canham, and Arthur E. Canham. She was a very active participant as well as held various official positions in the following organizations: UPPEC #16, Mission San Jose; UPEC #5; SPRSI #84, Warm Springs; IDES #71 Warm Springs; Tamalpa Parlour, Native Daughters of the Golden West, Mill Valley; Past Presidents Assn. #24 NDGW; SES #8 Newark; St. Anthony's #12, Fremont; Catholic Daughters of the America's, Court 1508, Mission San Jose; Sister's of the Holy Family, Fremont, and the Senior Center Bingo Club. A visitation will be held from 2pm - 7pm Tuesday, at Fremont's Lima Family Mortuary, 48800 Warm Springs Blvd., followed by a Rosary vigil at 7pm at the same location. A funeral mass will be celebrated at St. Joseph's Catholic Church, 43148 Mission Blvd., Fremont on Wednesday morning at 10:00 am. Burial to follow at Cedar Lawn Memorial Park in Fremont at 48800 Warm Springs Blvd. Memorial donations in lieu of flowers can be sent to: Sister's of the Holy Family, Sister John Marie's Pantry, St. Joseph's Parish, The Dominican Sisters or a charity of your choice.
