Ethel Alwilda Rowe, the first child to Lonnie and Anne Martiche (Marticke) Rowe, was born November 5, 1905 in Stanberry, Missouri. She grew to young womanhood in Stanberry, attending schools there.
On August 4, 1922 she was united in marriage to D.F. (Slim) Wilson in Albany, Missouri. Five children were born to this union: Clarence Wallace, Doris Eugene, Phyllis Louise, Harry Wayne and Shirley Ann. Shortly after their marriage Slim and and Ethel moved with their family to Pueblo, Colorado. They later moved to Thomas County, settling near Gem. They lived in the Gem and Colby areas where Slim was employed as a laborer.
Slim passed away on May 27, 1953.
Ethel was an active member of the V.F.W. Auxiliary and the Royal Neighbors Lodge. She was a faithful member of the Friendly Circle Sunday School Class od the Colby Christian Church and was regular in her attendance in class and church activities as long as her health permitted. For the last several years she had made her home in the Meadowlark Manor Housing Facility in Colby. She loved music and participated as a member of the Kitchen Band. Ethel was one of the first members of the Retired Senior Volunteer Program for volunteers in the Colby area. She was the first member of this program to accumulate 3,000 hours of Volunteer work. Her family, her church and other activities in which she was involved were very precious to her. She will be missed by everyone whose life she touched. Ethel died June 14, 1983 at Lantern Park Manor in Colby where she had resided the past few weeks. She leaves to mourn her passing three sons, Clarence Wallace Wilson of Houston, Texas, Doris Eugene and his wife Virginia of Goodland, Harry Wayne and his wife Mary of Scotts Bluff, Nebraska; one daughter Shirley Ann Stragey and her husband Glenn of Colby, five sisters: Lena Myers, Hellen Petry, Rachel Thomas, Frances Knowles and Virginia Yocum survive as do eleven grandchildren and seventeen great-grandchildren and a host of other relatives and friends. She was preceded in death by one daughter, Phyllis Louise, by her husband, Slim, and two brothers, Thomas and Edward Rowe.
Services were held ar Harrison Chapel, Colby, Kansas on Thursday, June 16, 1983 at 10:30a.m.___________Emerson C. Gillett of Colby, officiated.
