Mr. Houston was a native of Watauga, TN but had lived in Surgoinsville since 1953 and was a retired from TVA as a machine shop supervisor at the John Sevier Steam Plant. He enjoyed fishing, gardening and was a fan of the Johnson City and St. Louis Cardinals baseball teams. He accepted Christ in 1944 in a foxhole in Germany, evidenced by his many acts of charity throughout his life. He served his country in WW II seeing his first action at LeHarve, France, an ex-prisoner of war in Germany and was awarded two Bronze Stars and a Purple Heart. He was a charter member of the Hawkins County Rescue Squad and an active member of the VFW in Rogersville.

He is preceded in death by his parents, Herve H. and Eva Renfro Houston, one son, Leslie "Big Boy" Houston, two brother and two sisters.

He is survived by his loving wife of 61 years, Gloria "Glo" Edwards Houston, Surgoinsville; one son and daughter-in-law, Mickey and Susan Houston, Surgoinsville; three daughters and sons-in-law, Faye and Roy Blackman, Bennie and Mike Carithers, all of Fort Worth, TX; Teresa and Johnny Greer, Surgoinsville; 13 grandchildren and 11 great grandchildren.
