Sylvester Ayers Died Suddenly At Atlanta Today
Had Been in Town Trading and Fell From His Sled On Way Home at Noon
Rushed to Town, But Expired in Few Minutes
Dr. J.M. Halliburton Pronounced Death as Result of Acute Indigestion
Atlanta, Dec 30 – Sylvester Ayers, aged about 75 years, died at Dr. J.M. Halliburton’s drug store at one o’clock this afternoon, after only a few minutes illness.
Mr. Ayers came to town this morning in his sleigh, and after doing some trading, started home about noon. When only a short distance from town, he was seen to fall from his sleigh, by Emmett Magruder, who was only a short distance behind him.
Mr. Magruder rushed to his rescue, and readily discovered that Mr. Ayers was in a serious condition.
Forest Moody, who was hauling ice from the lake to Atlanta, assisted Mr. Magruder, and placing him in the sled, they rushed to town, taking Mr. Ayers to Dr. Halliburton’s drug store, where he expired in a very few minutes.
While Mr. Ayers was conscious at times, and readily took medicine given him by Dr. Halliburton, he complained of his stomach hurting him. Dr. Halliburton diagnoses his case as an attack of acute indigestion.
Mr. Ayers is survived by his aged wife and six sons and two daughters.
He was a prominent and well known farmer of this section.
The Macon Daily Herald – Wed. Dec 30, 1914

Mr. Ayers was 74 years old and has been a resident of this section for many years, having come here from Pennsylvania when quite a young man. He was an active member of the Methodist church and was a man that will be sorely missed. He was always found on the side of right and ready to contribute to any good cause. He was a man among men.
