Lawrence is the son of James Cleveland and 2nd wife Nellie May (Hughes/House) Branstetter. His older half sister was Ellen Irene (House) Ebinger. His sister was Zaddie Marie (Branstetter) Aston. His younger half sister was Doris Ilene (Branstetter)/Taylor) Roberts.
He married his high school sweetheart, Frances Mae Hammers on December 4, 1942 in St. Louis, Missouri on a three day pass before going back to be shipped out. To this union three children were born: David Lawrence Branstetter, Nellie May (Branstetter) Regier and Amelia (Branstetter)/Keeney/Roy) Gaylord.
He served in the US Army as a staff sergaent in World War II. Lawrence loved farming and his family. He enjoyed fishing, hunting and people. He lived and died on the land he most loved - the family homestead of Michael and Permelia (Yoakley) Branstetter.
