Hall of Fame Professional Basketball Player. Born Wilton Norman Chamberlain in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania, he was one of the most dominant players in the history of basketball. An outstanding player at the University of Kansas, he was drafted by the Philadelphia Warriors as a center in 1959 and was Rookie of Year in 1960. For 15 season with the Philadelphia-San Francisco Warriors (1959-1965), Philadelphia 76ers (1965-1968) and Los Angels Lakers (1968-1973), he set numerous official NBA all time records. He was the only NBA player to score 4,000 points in a season, set NBA single-game records for most points (100), most consecutive field goals (18) and most rebounds (55). He retired with 1,045 games played, 23,924 rebounds, 4,643 assists and 31,419 points scored. In 1978, he was elected to the Naismith Memorial Basketball Hall of Fame and was selected to the NBA 50th Anniversary All-Time Team in 1996. (bio by: John "J-Cat" Griffith)
