Michael Lloyd Chisman died Sept. 4, 2008, at University Medical Center in Las Vegas after an eighth-month battle with leukemia.
Michael was born on Jan. 13, 1952, in Nashville, Tenn. and grew up in Colorado Springs. Mike attended William S. Mitchell High School and during that time toured with the musical group Up With People.
Mike had many interests and always said he was living every boy's dream by being a cowboy, a fireman, policeman, a cook at Silver Cliff Ranch, paramedic, DJ, special effects director and technical theater director. Before his illness, Mike had been working in Seoul, Korea, for Artistry Entertainment, Inc., creating interactive rides for Lotte World theme park. Prior to this he worked for BRC Imagination Arts as a show systems manager, overseeing the construction of the Texas Spirit Theatre in the Bob Bullock Texas State History Museum, as well as being a consultant for the Henry Ford Museum in Dearborn, Mich. Mike was a skilled pyrotechnician and had worked on the Big Bear, Calif., fireworks display for the past 13 years.
Mike is fondly remembered as a generous, hard-working man who kept a good attitude even through his illness and was loved by co-workers, friends and family.
Michael is survived by his mother and Benno Walters of Buena Vista; sisters and their families of Buena Vista, Boerne, Texas; and Huntingdon, England; and brother and family of Lincolnshire, Ill.; and life partner of Las Vegas, Nev. A memorial service will be held at Valley Fellowship Church in Buena Vista on Saturday, Sept. 20 at 11 a.m. In lieu of flowers, please make donations to the Encore Foundation, the magicians group that has been helping with his medical expenses.
