Dorothy C. Vass, 88, Topeka, formerly of Columbus GA, died Sat. July 4, 2009. Dorothy was born Sept. 28, 1920, in Burlington NC, the daughter of Ollie and Lelia Small Cole. She earned her MA in Library Science from UNC at Chapel Hill in 1944 and was a librarian. On July 2, 1947, she married Army Sgt. William Kyle Vass. Her interests included indoor gardening, the Chicago Cubs, her Scottish heritage and traveling. She was an avid reader and started a book club at Thornton Place where she resided for the past 6 years. She was preceded in death by her husband, William, and a sister. Visitation will be from 6 to 8 p.m. Thurs. at Kevin Brennan Family Funeral Home, 2801 SW Urish Rd, Topeka KS 66614. Burial will be in Arlington National Cemetery. Memorial contributions are suggested to Midland Hospice and the Topeka Shawnee County Public Library Red Carpet Service sent in care of the funeral home.
