George Edward Davenport was born near Augusta, Ill. February 14, 1851 and departed from this life, at the home of his daughter, Mrs. Myrtle Gillette at Wichita, Kansas, April 27, 1927, age 76 years, 2 months, and 13 days.

Mr. Davenport was reared in his native state, Illinois, and in the year 1873 was united in marriage to Miss Anna Darrah Pigg. In 1882 they moved to Kansas, settling near Winfield, where they lived till the opening of the Strip, when they settled on a claim and lived some years near Lamont. Just before Mrs. Davenport's death in 1910 they moved near Pond Creek.

Mr. and Mrs. Davenport were the parents of nine children, all surviving their parents, and are as follows: Rev. Emory O., of Ponca City, Okla, Rev. Owen L., of Aline, Okla., Hugh M.of Wichita, Kansas, Mrs. Ethel Ober, Jefferson, Oka., Clyde H. of Blanckwell, Oklahoma, Mrs. Myrtle Gillette of Wichita, Kansas, Ira N. of Dubuque, Iowa, Roy B. of Englewood, California and Mrs. Alma Tingler of Pond Creek, ore brother, Andrew W. of Winfield, Kansas and 37 grandchildren also survive.

The last few years of his life he has made his home with the children and with his brother at Winfield, Ks.

In 1874 or 5 he was converted and with his companion united with Protestant Methodist Church. On settling in Kansas they united with the United Bretheran Church and later affiliated with the Free Methodist Church. A few hours before he died he expressed a desire to go and also his hope of a never ending immortal life.

All the children, except Roy were present at the funeral service which was conducted by Rev. Vanderhoofen, assisted by Rev. Hornbeck, Wright and Johnson at the Pond Creek M. E. Church, Friday, April 29, at 1:30 p.m.

Interment was made in the Pond Creek Cemetery.
