Dorothy Jean Swaldo Davis, age 84, of New Philadelphia, Ohio, passed away suddenly on Sunday, April 10, 2011 at her residence.
Born March 11, 1927 at Goshen Valley Rd., New Philadelphia, Dorothy was the daughter of the late Donald Milton and Dorothy Louise Hill Snyder.
Affectionate and endearing, Dorothy loved her family and took great delight in being part of their lives, communicating with each of them often. She made and sold Hill Salve and remedies for many years and enjoyed time with her friends, gardening, flowers, and animals.
A Christian, Dorothy held to the promise of heaven and eternity secured for her through salvation through the death, burial and resurrection of her Lord, Jesus Christ.
She was preceded in death by her first husband, John William Swaldo, who died suddenly in 1977 after 30 years of marriage.
She is survived by her children June and Jim Baab of Dover, Dale and Vickie Swaldo of Stonecreek, Glen and Deb Swaldo of Goshen, and Kay and Tom Mott of Senecaville; Grandchildren: Scott and Melissa Swaldo, John and Valerie Ritenour, Nicholas and Jessica Swaldo, Zach and Rebekah Swaldo, Daniel Swaldo and his fiance Kelsey Roth, Donald Swaldo, Jennifer Fisher and her fiance Chad Dotter, Amanda Pringle, and Ashley Pringle; and thirteen great-grandchildren.
Dorothy was also preceded in death by her second husband, William F. Davis, who died in 2003, and is survived by her three step-daughters and their families.
The last of her family, she was preceded in death by her parents, sisters Mariam Snyder and Eleanor Simmers, and brothers Donald, Milton, Paul and Ervin Snyder. However, she is survived by five sisters-in-law and three brothers-in-law, as well as numerous nieces and nephews and their families. She considered them all additional children.
Calling hours will be held from 5:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m.on Wednesday, April 13, 2011 at the Uhrich-Hostettler English Funeral Home in Uhrichsville.
Funeral services will be held at 11:00 a.m., on Thursday, April 14, 2011 at the funeral home, with the Pastor Ray Ulrich officiating.
Burial will follow at Ridgecrest Memory Gardens in Dover .
A funeral dinner will be held in the social hall of First Christian Church, New Philadelphia after the graveside service.
Memorial contributions may be made to the Tuscarawas County Humane Society.
