Union Civil War Veteran Officer. Born in Chambersburg, Pennsylvania, he was the son of Jasper E. and Margeret M. Brady. When the Civil War began, he answered President Lincoln's call for volunteers and enlisted to serve in the Union Army with the 12th Pennsylvania Infantry. Brady was mustered into Company B as a Private on April 25, 1861 for three months service. He was commissioned as a 1st Lieutenant with the 14th U.S. Infantry of the Regular Army on May 14, 1861 which went into effect when his three month term in the volunteer army expired. Brady was promoted to Quartermaster on January 1, 1862 and to Captain on June 10, 1864. He received a Brevet promotion to Major on August 18, 1864 and was placed in command of the Weldon Railroad in Pennsylvania. On March 13, 1865, he was promoted to Brevet Lieutenant Colonel for meritorious service. After the war, he returned to the north and later died from pneumonia in Chicago, Illinois in 1899 when he was 59 years old.
