A 42-year-old Shreveporter, Frank Giounes, has been identified by Shreveport police as the victim of a fatal shootout late Wednesday.
A man walking with Giounes in the 400 block of East 74th Street in Cedar Grove has been arrested for his involvement in the fracas that left Giounes dead.
Police said Giounes and Curtis Hines, 48, were walking together around 8:30 p.m. when an exchange of gunfire broke out between the two men and another group of men in the block.
Giounes was struck by a bullet and suffered at least one gunshot wound to his chest. He was taken to LSU Hospital in Shreveport where he later was pronounced dead.
After the gun battle, the participants, including Hines, ran away.
"Within minutes of the shooting, responding patrol officers were able to locate Curtis Hines and took him into custody," a police release says. "Detectives have recovered two handguns they believed were used in this shooting and are working at this time to positively identify the other participants and take them into custody."
Investigators have charged Hines, of the 1000 block of Babylon Street in Shreveport, with one count each of illegal use of a weapon and possession of firearm by a person convicted of certain felonies. He has been booked into the Shreveport City Jail.
People with information on the shootout should call Shreveport police detectives at (318) 673-6955 or Shreveport-Caddo Parish Crime Stoppers at (318) 673-7373.
