Florence W. Quinn

Mrs. Florence W. Quinn 85, of 514 Hotel Jamestown Apartments died at 2:55 a.m. today (July 28, 1978) in WCA Hospital.

She was born in Kellettville, Pa., Nov. 20, 1892, the daughter of Boyd and Minerva Mealey Winans. She moved to Panama after her first marriage and resided after that in Jamestown.

Mrs. Quinn was a well-known volunteer and especially noted for her work with the Cancer Society.

She was a member of the Epworth Christ United Methodist Church, the Golden Age Society, Senior Citizens Center, The Super-60s, Lakewood Rod and Gun Club Auxiliary, Thule Lodge and Diana Lodge, IOV.

She is survived by a daughter, Mrs. Harold Woodhead, of High Acres, Bemus Point; a son, Theodore W. Barry of Jamestown; four granddaughters, Mrs. David W. Scofield, Bemus Point, Mrs. Marvin Trisler, Falconer, Miss Karen Madden, Jamestown, Miss Karen Lundmark, Russell, Pa.; nine great-grandchildren; one great-great-granddaughter; two step-sons, James Quinn, Youngstown, Ohio, William Quinn, Hubbard, Ohio; a brother, Frank Winans, Jamestown; two sisters, Mrs. Ruby Fox, Sinclairville, and Mrs. Armeda Straughen, Youngsville, Ohio.

She was preceded in death by her first husband, Willis S. Barry, in 1933, her second husband, James B. Quinn, in 1957, two daughters, Mrs. Gladys Abrams and Mrs. Mildred Madden; a sister, Mrs. Grace Zettle; a brother, Gordon Winans; two grandchildren, Patrick and John Barry.

The funeral will be at 2 p.m. Monday in Powers Funeral Home. The Rev. Dr. Glenn E. Donelson, visitation pastor of Epworth Christ United Methodist Church will officiate. Burial will be in Sunset Hill Cemetery. Friends will be received by the family from 2-4 and 7-9 p.m. Sunday in the funeral home.

Inaccuracies, Typos, etc.:
My information on my great-aunt Florence is that her middle initial is "E" not "W". "Youngsville, Ohio" should be "Youngstown, Ohio". "Minerva Mealey Winans" should be spelled "Minerva Mealy Winans".

Collection of obituaries kept by Ruth Armeda (Winans) Straughen (1900-1983). Obit was probably published in a Jamestown, NY paper.

The Panama reference is probably for Panama, NY, a small town near Jamestown, NY and not Panama, the country.
