US Marine Harold Alonzo Skaggs, Vietnam Veteran. Native of Phoenix, Arizona.

US Marine Private First Class Harold Alonzo Skaggs was a casualty of the Vietnam War. As a member of the Marine Corps, PFC Skaggs served our country until June 4th, 1969 in Quang Tri, South Vietnam. He was 20 years old and was not married. It was reported that Harold died from an undetermined explosion. His body was recovered. Harold was born on October 21st, 1948 in Phoenix, Arizona. PFC Skaggs is on panel 23W, line 068 of the Vietnam Memorial Wall in Washington D.C. He served our country for one year.

High School Friends: To a Marine from a Soldier: Lonnie and I went to high school togeather and were pretty good friends. We were in Viet Name at the same time. A couple years latter I was told that there was a special memorial at the school Gym to honor not only Lonnie, but all that gave the supreme sacrifice. My Friend: Lonnie, and I were friends since age 5. He was a special person. He was always going to be a Marine. He is truely a Hero.I served in the same area as he did. in 70-71 with the 1st Cav. Tom McGough, Phoenix Az 85382, [email protected].

Harold (Lonnie) was my cousin. He was a Recon Marine and assigned to recon team "Flight Time" from the 3rd Platoon, Company D, 3d Recon BN, 3d Marine Division. Most of what follows is from a letter that his Company C.O. wrote in a letter to Harold's Mother. "On 2 June his six man team was helo-lifted into an area South of Khe Sanh in the vicinity of Hill 471. John Lee, [email protected].

His Uncle, I am Lonnie's Uncle Dale E Skaggs Sr and i have lost contact for almost 50 years now with the entire family and would love very much any info on Lonnie or pic of him or his family. Im not getting any younger and would love to get in contact with any person in his family. I was in Vietnam when Lonnie was killed and didnt even know he was there and killed till I arrived home in Jan 1970. Any info would would make an old man very happy. Thanks for all your time. He served with Delta Company, 3rd Marines, 3rd MArine Division, 3rd MAF.

He was awarded The Combat Action Ribbon(CAR), The Purple Heart Medal for his combat related wounds, The Vietnam Service Medal, The Republic of Vietnam Campaign Service Medal, The National Defense Service Medal and The Good Conduct Medal.

PFC Skaggs was killed along with Five other Marines US Marine 1LT Michael M O'Connor , US Marine PFC Robert Leslie Pearcy, US Marine LCPL Douglas W Barnitz , US Marine CPL William A Buck Jr , US Marine CPL William M Wellman ,

Son of Harold Skaggs Sr. and Nadine Flora Halter Skaggs-Strub.
