Samuel Rue Lee was my great, great grandfather. He was the son of Benjamin Lee and Elizabeth M. Lee. He was the oldest of their seven children.
Samuel married Mary Ann Elizabeth Fogle and had six children.
(Fogle connection) Her father was Jacob Fogle, his father was John Fogle and his Dad was Anthony. The name was changed in 1844 from Fogel or Vogel to Fogle.
Anthony Fogle(born around 1745). He fought in the American Revolution under Captain Buchanan's Co. . He enlisted in Pennsylvania. He served in Virgina during the war. He came to South Carolina at the end of the war. (He have Swiss and German background. )
Samuel Rue Lee fought in the Civil War from 1861-1864. He died of yellow fever on Sullivan Island in Charleston Harbor, Charleston , S.C. He was a PVT.,Co.l.,2nd.S.C. Artillery. On April 17, 1999 at Two Mile Swamp Baptist Church Orangeburg County, South Carolina they had a dedication service of Southern Crosses of Honor Honoring Samuel Rue Lee and his brother Benjamin H. Lee(1823-1863) Pvt.,Co.l,2ndS.C. Artillery.
