Bessie Smiley Edmonds

Weaverville - Bessie Smiley Edmonds, 67, was relieved on Monday, July 28, 2003, of all the suffering and pain she endured for the past several years when she went to join her loved ones in heaven.

Mrs. Edmonds was born Feb. 4, 1936, to the late Lillie Pegg Smiley and Burton Smiley. She was also preceded in death by her loving husband, James "Jim" Arthur Edmonds who died in 1997, whom she missed very much every day; sisters, Rosa Lee and Lula; and her brother, Edward.

She is survived by her daughter, Mary Ann Wheeler and husband, Jim, of Weaverville; son, Tommy Edmonds and wife, Teresa, of Mars Hill; five grandchildren, Michelle Adams, Dwayne Ray, Kimberly Hoffman, Lee Edmonds and Jason Edmonds; five great-grandchildren; and sisters, Flonnie Bailey and Hilda Young; and in-laws, Clara Edmonds, Mary Edwards, Ray Edmonds, Wilma Edmonds, the Rev. Lloyd Young and Sara Edmonds.

The graveside services will be held at 11 a.m. Friday in Mount Sheba Baptist Church cemetery with the Rev. Lloyd Young officiating.

The family will receive friends from 6 to 9 p.m. Thursday at Mrs. Edmonds residence, 12 Williams St., Weaverville.

West Funeral Home and Crematory, 17 Merrimon Ave., Weaverville, is in charge of arrangements.

In lieu of flowers the family requests you call a loved one, say "I'm here for you, just thinking of you" or give someone a hug and tell them to pass it on.
