Thelma B. Shimpfky passed away gently into the arms of Jesus at her home in Broomfield, Colorado on April 28, 2009.
Mrs. Shimpfky was born to Joe and Maude(Rhudy)Brazelton May 28, 1912 and raised in Elbert, Colorado. She graduated Valedictorian from Elizabeth Union High School in 1930. She then attended Colorado Teachers College (UNC) on a full scholarship, receiving a limited 2 year Degree to teach school. She returned home where she taught in a one room rural school house with 5 students.
She met Henry Lester Shimpfky while teaching school in Parker, Colorado in 1938. They were married on Christmas Day 1939. They moved to Broomfield in Aug. 1956 with their four children.
Mrs. Shimpfky also taught school in Brighton, Colorado for 27 years. Her career included earning her BA and MA, and spanned 45 years ending in retirement from Brighton's South East Elementary in 1977. She loved her students every year and could always remember each and every one.
She was Mrs. Shimpfky to her students but otherwise was known as Thelma. Thelma, who loved to talk about her days growing up in the little town of Elbert on the vast open plains, she and her older sister Iola were just like the girls of Little House on the Prairie where they created their own wonderful fun.
Thelma loved to knit and delighted in giving away hand made dish cloths to visitors or as a gift to all who attended a family gathering. She loved her family.
Hobbies included collecting McDonald's happy meal toys. Breakfast trips to McDonalds were a regular occurrence with Mr. Shimpfky. She never met a stranger because being friendly to others was just her way and she was truly interested in the facts of others lives.
Thelma was a child at heart and collected Madame Alexander Dolls as well as many others. Most of all Thelma loved children and if you were a third grader you were just about tops in her eyes! She was a Teacher all her life, and she kept teaching her family life's lesson's right through the end of her life. As she approached her 97th birthday her hope was to make one final trip to her hometown of Elbert. She loved the big family picnic and to see those familiar faces once again.
Mrs. Shimpfky was a member of The Eastern Star, Delta Kappa Gamma Sorority serving as President, and a member of the Broomfield United Methodist Church for 52 years.
Our lives have been so blessed by having her.
Preceding her in death, her husband Les Shimpfky, her daughter Donna Lea Shimpfky, her parents and five siblings.
