Anne Ellen was the eldest daughter of James and Annie Handley and the sister of James, Arthur, William, Frances and Rosetta.

She was born at 11, The Creek, Northfleet on June 26th 1908 and was baptised at St Botolph's church, Northfleet on 30th August 1908. She grew up at 36 Samaritan Grove, Northfleet.

She remained unmarried and after leaving home lived first at 43 Deneholm Road, Northfleet and then at Wallis Park, Northfleet and 11 Rayner's Court, Northfleet. She spent her entire working life as a paper sorter at Northfleet paper mill.

She was an excellent needlewoman and knitter, donating much of her output for sale by local charities.

He spent her last years in St Andrew's Rest Home, 2 The Avenue, Gravesend, where She died on 3rd July 1995 from pulmonary fibrosis, believed to be the result of conditions in the paper mills in which she worked. She was cremated at Medway Crematorium.
