Poet. One of the "decadent" poets of the 1890's. The son of two parents who committed suicide, he suffered from alcoholism and tuberculosis, from which he died. He was a friend of Oscar Wilde, Paul Verlaine, and William Butler Yeats, and created some of the most quoted English verse: "I have forgot much, Cynara! gone with the wind;"and "They are not long, the days of wine and roses."
