Printed in Daily Herald on 8/21/1903:

"Yesterday afternoon while Harry Walcott, a fourteen year old boy, was bathing at the foot of Main street with his little brother, he attempted to swim to a schooner that was anchored in the channel, off Swetman's wharf, when he became exhausted and was drowned before assistance could reach him. A number of ladies were bathing near there and when the boy began to sink and called for help, their cries drew a crowd of men to the scene, but they came too late to save the drowning lad. Two young men were in a skiff near the wharf and these could have reached him in time but they thought he was just trying to fool them. Hypolite St. Amant reached the scene of the drowning about ten minutes after it occurred, and securing a line and drag hook succeeded in bringing up the body. The little fellow's mouth and ears were full of mud, showing that he had gone down head first. Doctors Bolton, Bragg and Wyman tried every means within their reach to bring the unfortunate boy back to life, but he had been in the water possible thirty minutes before his body was brought out, and life was extinct. Harry was a bright boy and assisted his parents by delivering papers. His father, H. Walcott, is employed at Gill's furniture store and lives on Grandjack alley near the railroad. Harry is the second son his parents have lost by accident. A little more than two years ago their son, George, was killed just about one block from the scene of yesterday's accident, by the collaspe of the roof of Francois' place, then being raised to a two story building. The bereaved family have the sympathy of the entire community. The funeral of the unfortunate lad took place this afternoon at 4 o'clock from the Catholic church Rev. Father Alphonse officiating. The floral offerings were numerous and very beautiful."
