Actor. He is best remembered for his role of the wisecracking Mr. Lucas in the popular British TV comedy series "Are You Being Served?" (1972 to 1979). Bannister began acting at the age of fifteen with a repertory company and following two years with the National Service, he studied at the London Academy of Music and Dramatic Arts. He began appearing on British television during the early 1960s and landed his first recurring role as Peter Barry in the series "Object Z" (1965) and "Object Z Returns" (1966). More recent audiences will identify him with his later body of work in the series "Coronation Street" (2006) and "Last of the Summer Wine" (2010). He died from a heart attack. (bio by: C.S.)
