Two Houma teenagers were killed after their car collided with an 18-wheeler Sunday along La. 1 in south Lafourche, State Police said.

Taylor Caro, 19, and Alexandra Blaisdell, 18, were in a crash that happened about 5:20 a.m. at the highway's intersection with La. 3090, the road in and out of Port Fourchon, according to Troop C. Both were pronounced dead at the scene.

Caro was driving his 2000 Lexus 300 north on La. 1 about 5:20 a.m. and failed to stop at the stop sign. The truck, driven by Luis Contreras, 68, of Amelia, was already making its way through the intersection and was unharmed.

Alcohol involvement is unknown, State Police said. Blood will be tested, as required by law in all fatal crashes.

Blaisdell and Contreras were wearing their seat belts, but Caro was not, police said.

Caro graduated last year from Terrebonne High in 2011 and worked for Abdon Callais Offshore. He loved to fish and was interested in drag racing, something both his father and grandfather had done.

"He was a good kid with a lot of energy and a lot of life," said Jerry Caro, Taylor's grandfather.

He said a group of teenagers had been up all night on Grand Isle. They decided to get breakfast in Fourchon on their way home and they were on their way there when the crash happened. Caro said he believed the group had taken several cars, and Blaisdell just happened to get in Caro's for the ride to the restaurant.

Blaisdell was a senior at Terrebonne High School and had transferred this year from Vandebilt Catholic, where she was on the cheerleading squad.
