Dr William Badley
Birth: 1753
Death: Oct. 25, 1801

Surgeon, born in Dudley, Worcestershire, England second son of Phoebe (Payton) and Henry Badley. He was the first of the line of Surgeons in the family. While not a temperate man, he was so highly regarded for his medical skill that the people were known to say that they would rather call in Dr. Badley drunk than any other doctor sober. He married Sarah Cox, daughter of a Cosley schoolmaster. They had four children surgeon, John Badley, F.R.C.S.; Anthony Badley; Elizabeth Badley and Radcliff Badley. He died in Dudley, Wocestershire, West Midlands, England. (bio by: David McJonathan-Swarm)

*the quotations are all taken from a handwritten copy made at Grasmere, (Westmoreland) Cumbria, England by Louise MacArthur of "Reminiscences of The Badleys" written by cousin Mary, the eldest daughter of Dr. James Payton Badley when she interviewed Uncle Henry, her father's brother, at Insetton and from MEMORIES AND REFLECTIONS by J. H. Badley; London: George Allen & Unwin, 1955.
