Robert was a U.S. military veteran and perished as one of the 91 souls in the Sunshine Mine Disaster, the deadliest mine event in Idaho history.

A memorial statue stands over twelve feet tall at exit 22 of I-90, at the base of the Big Creek Canyon, between the towns of Kellogg and Osburn, Idaho. Source: Contributor's personal knowledge.
