Grant L Briggs, 72, of Oblong, died at 11:30pm on Monday, Nov 22, 1993 at Crawford Memorial Hospital following a lingering illness.

He was born March 1, 1921 at West Salem, Edwards Co, IL to Garnet and Susie (Densmore) Briggs.

He married Davana Chapman on May 10, 1947. She survives.

He is also survived by 2 sons, Glenn of West York, IL and Rod of Robinson, IL; 3 daughters, Mrs. Russell (Rosemary) Preston and Mrs. Doug (Ruth) Gurley, all of Hutsonville, IL and Mrs. Terry (Donna) Hoke of Hardinville, IL; 9 grandchildren; 1 brother, Robert "Bob" Briggs of Florida; 1 sister, Mrs. Elthelda Leota Wilson of Warsaw, 2 step-sisters, Mrs. Flossie Berniece Payne of Roseville, Mrs. Rubel (Mary Susan) Bradbury of Robinson, IL; 1 sister-in-law, Ruby Briggs, several nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by his parents, 3 brothers, William Ralph "Billy", Paul Richard and Cyril Roscoe.

Mr. Briggs retired in 1972 from Briggs Pottery. He was employed several years by Mahutska Oil Co. and was a retired Crawford County farmer.

He served in the Army during WWII, and was a member of the Porterville Christian Church, Porterville Masonic Lodge, AF & AM and Disabled American Veterans.

Services are 10:30am Friday at the Pulliam Funeral Home in Robinson with Kevin Seeley officiating. Burial will be in Prairie Cemetery, northwest of Robinson, with military rites by the American Legion, Veterans of Foreign Wars and AmVets.
