Indian Campaigns Congressional Medal of Honor Recipient. He entered the US Army in Louisville, Jefferson County, Kentucky. He served as a First Sergeant in Company E, 5th US Cavalry. He was awarded the CMOH for action during the Apache Campaigns in 1872-73. His citation reads "Gallant conduct during campaigns and engagements with Apaches." (bio by: Don Morfe)

William L. Day, Sr is my great grandfather. He and Levina Mitchell moved from Kentucky to Virginia and had several children, one was my grandmother, Mary Jane Day who married Albert Hughes, my grandfather.
