Nancy Emaline "Emma" Phipps Patterson

"Emma" was born a few miles west of Aldrich, Missouri the daughter of John Phipps and Sarah Elizabeth McDaniel.

She 1st married David Lincoln Stockton in 1891 at Bona, Dade County, Missouri and had seven children (Frank, Goldie, Della, Cleo, Ola, Lewis and Willie). Lewis and Willie died very young. Willie is buried in Quitman, Arkansas.

David homesteaded in Taney County, Big Creek Township, Missouri. Deed proved in 1902. David died of pneumonia soon after tending his cattle in a January 1907 rain storm. He was buried at Goodhope, Missouri beside his son Lewis.

Emma married George Walter Patterson in 1913 in Cassville, Missouri and had two sons (Paul Phipps Patterson and Loren Carle Patterson).

She resided in Taney County, Missouri until 1908; Marshall, Arkansas (1911-1913); Purdy, Missouri (1916-1920s); San Francisco, CA and finally Commerce, Oklahoma. She was an active member of the Commerce Baptist Church.

Emma suffered a stroke while tending her garden and died shortly thereafter. The town of Commerce, OK shut down for her funeral.

Emma was my grandmother.
