MR. JOSPEH R. BROWN SUCCUMBED AT NOON THURSDAY
Was a Native of Frederick County, But had resided in Berkeley County Since the Civil War.
Mr. Joseph R. Brown, a well-known Berkeley county farmer, and a Union veteran of the Civil war, died at the home of his daughter, Mrs. E. Mong Pitzer, on the Gerrardstown road, four miles from Martinsburg, at noon Thursday. Death was due to a complication of diseases.
Mr. Brown was aged 74 years. He was a native of Frederick county, Va., where he was reared. During the Civil war he was a soldier in the Union army, and at the close of the struggle between the states he removed to Berkeley county, where he resided continuously since.
For many years he followed the occupation of a farmer, but several years ago he retired from active life, and spent his declining years quietly at the home of his daughter.
Two children survive, Mrs. Pitzer and Miss Nannie Brown. The funeral will take place from the late home at 10 o'clock Saturday morning. The services will be conducted by Rev. Mr. Ely, pastor of the First Methodist church at Bunker Hill. Interment will be in Green Hill cemetery.
