Lorenzo married twice. He married Sarah Johnson in 1840, then he married Synthelia Guymon on 18 January 1856 in Salt Lake City, Utah.

He and Sarah removed to to Utah in the early months of 1850 in one of the first pioneer companies. Later that year he was sent by Brigham Young, under the leadership of Apostle George A. Smith, to help colonize new communities and open new towns and frontiers along the stream beds. They arrived at Center Creek (later known as Parowan) on January 13, 1851.

At some point the industrious Lorenzo, who had worked at developing the flume and irrigation system for the community, had some trouble with his church leader over water distribution and lost his good standing with the church. This caused great hardships for the family. The family left Parowan for Circleville.
