On 6 July 1941, Helen became engaged to Robert Looney with a July 26 marriage planned; their marriage intentions were filed in Northampton on 18 July 1941.

In 1949, Helen is listed as Mrs. Robert Looney of Holyoke in her brother John's obituary. The 1951 Holyoke City Directory lists Helen as the widow of Robert C. Looney who died 3 January 1951.

In 1954, the Holyoke directory continues to list her and the 1955 entry shows she moved to Reno, Nevada. Her marriage license to John Afonso is posted in the 1 September 1954 Reno Evening Gazette.

In 1984, Helen & John moved to Palm Harbor, Florida from California (Sunnyvale her obit, San Jose his obit).
