Frank W. Battershell, 73 of 517 N. Cross St., Robinson, IL, died at 2:05 p.m. Sunday, May 13, 2007 at his home with family. He was born December 8, 1933 in Robinson, the son of Cecil Battershell and Ethel Stifle Battershell.

He spent his professional life in the construction industry. He learned the welding trade while working for A. W. "Red" McCoy Welding Service and studying the trade through the Diversified Occupations Program then available at the Robinson High School. He enlisted in the U. S. Air Force and served in Korea from 1952 to 1953 and was a member of the Robinson V. F. W. Post #4549. The Air Force provided an opportunity to continue his construction training by working through the Plumbers and Pipe Fitters Local Union for Koochass Tank Works and Witita Engineering. Ultimately his training allowed him to build many local construction projects as general contractor through his own company, LeDo Construction.

Frank married Lena Mae Highsmith on October 11, 1952 and she survives. They have two children, Brent Battershell, Columbia, TN and Brenda Smith of Landes, IL. Brenda is married to Blake Smith and they have two sons, Jacob and Caleb. He is also survived by his brother and sister-in –law, John and Carole Battershell, Centennial, CO; and several brothers-in-law and sisters-in-law, nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents and his brother, Charles Battershell who was killed in action in Korea.

He was always grateful for his spiritual upbringing at Bible Chapel Church, rural Robinson. He was an active church member of Highland Avenue Baptist Church, First Missionary Baptist Church of Flat Rock, and the First Baptist Church of Robinson. He has been active in his retirement until just recently. He assisted his wife in her home décor store, in the former LeDo Construction building, his son with construction projects and his daughter and son-in-law with farming.

Funeral services will be at 10:30 a.m. Thursday, May 17th at the Goodwine Funeral Home in Robinson. Rev. Jerry McDaniel is in charge of services. Burial is in the Robinson New Cemetery. Visitation will be from 5:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m. Wednesday, May 16th. Memorials may be made to the Robinson First Baptist Church or to the Lincolnland Hospice with envelopes at the funeral home.
