Lord Alfred Hayes

Professional Wrestler, Announcer. He was widely known as "Lord Alfred Hayes" the much loved and dignified British announcer for the WWF. He started his career as a wrestler in the the 1950s as "Judo" Al Hayes. He also was a manager for a time, managing the team of Nikoli Volkoff and Chris Markov. He then went into announcing when he joined the WWF in 1982. After retiring in 1995, he joined Tito Santana's American Wrestling Federation, a short lived promotion. Although known best for his announcing, he held various wrestling titles: NWA Western States tag team (2); NWA Texas tag-team; NWA (Central States) tag-team and was voted PWI Inspirational wrestler of the year in 1972. In 2005 he suffered a series of strokes at the nursing home where he had lived for several years. (bio by: Hilda Duell)
