The son of John and Nancy Cox Brummet, natives of Texas and Missouri, respectively, Abner J. Brummet was born March 13, 1879 in Bastrop County, Texas and spent his life near Bastrop and engaged in farming. He was a Baptist by faith and had been a member of the church for 40 years. He married Miss Ima Truitt at Youngs Prairie Apr 30, 1919 who survives him together with one son, Jack Brummet. One son preceded him in death at the age of four years. Other survivors are four sisters, Mrs. Edna Ball, Mrs. Harvey Scott, Elgin; Mrs. George Hibbs, Manor and Mrs. G. W. He was a kind and loving father and his family came first with him and he was a good neighbor. Following his retirement he and Mrs. Brummet had resided in Austin. He had been in failing health for a number of years and was suffered much pain the last year of his life. Despite his cross of ill health his faith waxed brightly to the end, and death came quietly at 7:00 o'clock Thursday Feb. 11th 1960 at Brackenridge Hospital in Austin. His devoted wife was in constant attendance to render every service possible but to no avail, and he was laid to rest beneath a mound of floral tributes to await the resurrection morn.
Ima, Jack, Elvera and Thomas Brummet express their loss in these words:
"A precious one from us has gone
A voice we loved is still
A place is vacant in our home which never can be filled"
