Bloomington resident Christina Brown Compton passed away at University Hospital in Indianapolis on April 27th, 2014.

Christina was born on June 14th, 1952 in Manila, Indiana to Dr. Earl F. Brown and Katharine Appleby Brown. She graduated from Rushville Consolidated High School Class of 1970 and attended Indiana University, earning a certificate degree in office management.

She married her beloved husband, Charles William “Bill” Compton in 1974, beginning a mutual journey that would endure for nearly forty years on this earth and for eternity henceforth.

Christina thrived in the workplace, working at Arvin Industries in Columbus, Indiana for three years, and as a free-lance court reporter. She also later started her own deposition business. After moving to Bloomington, Indiana in 1995, she continued as a court reporter in the deposition business, and subsequently worked in the medical billing field, and as a legal secretary.

Her volunteer efforts included Psi Iota Xi (Columbus Chapter), PEO (Bloomington Chapter), and various church activities including singing in the Asbury United Methodist Church Choir. Her hobbies and interests included reading, music, Indiana University basketball, spending time with her grandchildren, her Maltese dog Annie, traveling, and gardening.

Survivors: Husband Charles William Compton of Bloomington, IN, Daughter Katie Reising (Adam) of Richmond, IN, Son Daniel Brown Compton of Indianapolis, IN (Nancy).

Siblings: Marylee Brown of Greensboro, NC, Maureen Brown Thompson (Steve) of Manteo, NC, Daniel P. Brown of Bloomington, IN, and Rosalie Brown Romagnoli (Joe) of Blackwood, NJ.

Brother-in-laws: Tom & wife Josalyn Compton of Connersville, IN, John & wife Jean Compton of Concord, MI, and Robert & wife Connie Compton of Carmel, IN.

Grandchildren: Yxta Compton (7), Samuel Reising (9), Claire Reising (7), and Sophia Reising (4).

Preceded in death by: Katharine A. Brown, mother Dr. Earl F. Brown, father and Michael A. Brown, brother.

Christina battled Type 1 Diabetes for 47 years, a fight which included both a kidney and pancreas transplant. Doctors advised her against having children, and she advised them right back by having two children with a legacy of four beautiful grandchildren. We, her family and friends, thank her for her bravery and for every moment with her with which we were blessed. You have earned your peace, dear mother, wife, sister, friend.

Services will be held at Noon Friday, May 2 at the Manilla Cemetery in Rush County. Friends are welcome to visit at the cemetery from 11 until until service on Friday. Pastor Brian Derrer will preside.

A Celebration of Life will be held in Bloomington at a later date
