JAMES BARTLEY
"James Bartley, an old and respected citizen of Brown co., died Dec. 23rd, at the residence of his son, Nicholas Bartley, aged 86 years, 8 months and 15 days. Father Bartley was born in Green co., Tenn., April 8th, 1806 and moved to Lee co., Va., in 1825 where he lived till 1884 when he moved to Brown co., Kansas and lived here until his death. He was married in 1829. His wife with whom he lived about 60 years, died about two years ago. He was the father of ten children, nine of whom are still living.

"As near as can be learned he was converted and joined the Methodist church at about the age of fifteen or sixteen years and remained a faithful Christian and member of the church 70 or 71 years. For one of his age he was remarkably kind spirited and patient.

"The funeral services were held on Christmas day at the Grand Prairie Methodist church and the remains of Father Bartley were laid in our beautiful cemetery to wait the resurrection of the Just."
