Mr. Adams, lovingly known as "Jack," was born April 22, 1927 in Dublin, Ga., a son of Bruce Speight and Vina Stanley.
He had worked at LTV Steel, retiring in 1978.
He was a member of the Mt. Zion Baptist Church and was an Army veteran.
His wife, the former Helen Waters, whom he married in April of 1956, passed away Jan. 28, 1968.
He leaves to cherish his beloved memory four children, Sheila M. Adams of Youngstown, James E. Adams Jr. of Elizabeth, N.J., David K. Adams of Cleveland and Laura L. Adams of Augusta, Ga.; six grandchildren; two great-grandchildren; and a host of family and friends.
He was preceded in death by his parents; wife; two brothers, L.C. Adams and Booker Adams; and a sister, Rev. Lorene Alexander.
Friends may call Friday from 10 to 11 a.m. at the church.
