William "Willie" Collins was born January 8, 1958 and raised in Corpus Christi, Tx. With his loving children and his girlfriend by his side, our beloved father passed away after a short illness. Our devoted father, brother, uncle and friend left us to be with the Lord on Friday, November 18, 2005 in Coon Rapid, Minnesota. He was 47 years old. Willie was a 1976 graduate of mary Carroll High School. He was medically retired from Reynolds Metals Company in 1992 after thirteen years of service. He also owned his own home improvement business and worked as a hot-shot driver in Corpus Christi, Texas; he worked as a patient counselor for The Center for Surgical Treatment of Obesity in Hawaiian Gardens, California, and most recently worked as a customer service representative for Best Buy in Richfield, Minnesota. Willie excelled as a patient counselor after himself undergoing a gastric bypass in 1998, educating those who were interested in the procedure, In fact, Willie's story gave inspiration to hundreds around the nation that were seeking relief from their overweight concerns. Willie served on the board of directors for Oso Pony Baseball League where he served two terms as League President, was an active member of the Calallen FFA Booster Club, and the Calallen Footbal Booster Club.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Ben W. and Charlene (Edwards) Collins.
He is survived by one son, Ben Christopher Collins; one daughter, Jennifer Leigh (Josh) Taylor; his sister, Benita (Richard) Brunner all of Corpus Christi, Texas and his sister Denise (Randy) Garvel of Victoria, Texas, numerous nieces, nephews, and friends.
Those who knew Willie will remember a colorful personality who loved to tease, give his opinion, and most of all, spend time with his family and friends. He had an incredible zest for life and lived it to the fullest. Willie never met a stranger, always had a joke or funny story to tell, and knew no cultural bias; he generally loved people. Willie, we love you and will dearly miss you.
Willie Collins worked for the 2000 Census in Corpus Christi Texas and the surrounding area. He was a natural leader and an exceptional worker. He worked many long hours and very early mornings both in the office and out in the field. Willie's skills with people made him a natural for interviewing persons for the necessary information for the Census. He was extremely important during the campaigns to locate and interview the homeless persons in our area. Willie was a great guy and I enjoyed working with him. Bless you Willie. See you later, friend.
