She was born October 5, 1928, in Erick, Oklahoma, to Tom and Fannie KiIlingsworth. The family moved to the Kelton,Texas, area when Joyce was about nine years old. She graduated from Kelton High School at the early age of 15 after which she enrolled at West Texas State University. After graduation, her first teaching job was at Canadian, Texas. She also taught at Miami and Kelton, Texas, high schools.
During her teaching career in the Texas panhandle, she met and married Wilbur (Red) Hart. Their two children were born there. They later moved to California where Joyce continued teaching also obtaining Masters and Doctorate degrees in psychology.
Joyce was predeceased by her husband, "Red," a son, Phil, and a daughter, Debbie. Surviving are two grandchildren. After Red's death she married Don Fancher who pre-deceased her in 2009. Joyce H. Fancher passed away Feb. 13, 2013, at The Margaret T. Morris Center.
First and foremost, the family would like to thank the staff for the exceptional care they have given to Joyce for the past three years. We could not have done this without you!
Joyce was born Oct. 5, 1928, in Erick, Okla. At age 15 she was enrolled at West Texas State Teachers College and started her first teaching job at age 19. She received her doctorate in psychology. She worked for Anaheim Union High School District in California for more than 40 years. She began her career as a teacher, and then became a counselor. Her final position was the school psychologist for special youth services.
She retired in 1995 and moved to Prescott, Ariz., with her beloved husband, Don.
Her hobbies included gardening, bird-watching, following her beloved Arizona professional sports teams, and canning. She won numerous awards for her canned goods at the county fair.
Joyce was a devoted wife and partner to the love of her life, Donald Fancher, who preceded her in death, along with granddaughter Erica.
She is survived by her children Denise Bailie (Rob), Janan Fancher and Neil Fancher (Tammy); grandchildren Christina, Sean, Nicholas, Amber and Blaine; and great-grandchildren Kylie and Adrianna.
Services will be held in Erick, Okla.
