Henry Clay Abernathy is the son of Rev. James Buckner Abernathy. The 1860 census shows both Henry Clay and his older brother Augustus "Cabot" and five other children living in Sevier, Arkansas. In November 1861, father Buckner Abernathy and both H.C. and his older brother A.C. enlisted in the 19th Arkansas Infantry Regiment while living in Sevier. During the course of the war, Henry Clay was captured by Union forces in January 1863 at Arkansas Post. He was returned to the CSA during a captive soldiers exchange. He survived the conflict to return to Pittsburg, Texas after the war.

1880 Census:Head-Henry(37),Wife-Willie(26),Children-Harp(10),Lota(4),and Buck(1).

Harp died Oct. 7, 1939. Lota W. Abernathy never married and died Dec. 21, 1957 at the Austin State Hospital in Austin, Texas.
