Death: Aug. 20, 1980

Musician. Born to American film director Jules Dassin, he was one of France's most popular singers during the mid 1960s and 1970s. Early in his career he was an actor with supporting roles in movies such as “The Law” (1959) and “Topkapi” (1964). Moving to France, he turned his interest to music and recorded his first song "Bip-Bip" (1965), followed by the successful hit "Les Dalton" (1968). From then on, he recorded hit after hit and was the first French singer to sign up with an American record label. He became immensely popular, recording songs in French, Greek, German, Spanish, Italian and English. He died at age 41. (bio by: John "J-Cat" Griffith)
