Birth: Jun. 6, 1826
Death: Jun. 27, 1891

A veteran of the Confederste States Army. Hw was elected sheriff of Gonzales County, Texas four times; first on August 6, 1860, but served only until April 1862 with no known reason for discontinuance. He was elected again on February 15, 1876 and again on November 5, 1878. The fourth time was November 2, 1880. He formed several large posses and scoured the countryside during the Sutton-Taylor feud, but few arrests were made.

James M. Mccaffrey's book 'This Band of Heroes' shows an Alonzo T. Bass as having served w/ Co C 6th TX Infantry.
