CSA Private; Enlisted 20 Apr 1861 in Company A, 2nd Georgia Infantry Battalion. Samuel served throughout the war, much of the time as a special courier for Brig. Gen. S. G. French in Petersburg, Virginia. He was shot in the hand and lost his right middle finger, applied for and received a pension.
