Jantje (Jennie) Jacobs van Dijk was born on May 19, 1862 in Hemelum, Friesland, Netherlands, the daughter of Jacob Broers van Dijk and Eeuw Hendriks Bremer.

She grew up and married in Friesland. On May 14, 1892 in Gaasterland, she married Klaas Kok,son of Pier Gosses Kok and Hendrikje Piers Mulder. On Feb 7, 1893, Jantje and Klaas welcomed their first child, Eeuw to the world. Later that same year, Klaas and Jantje immigrated with their infant daugther to America. They settled in Holland, Michigan. After arriving in Holland, they had three more children: Peter Klaas Cook born May 22, 1894, Harriet Cook born June 24, 1897 and Cora Cook born September 20, 1899.

They made their home at 122 West 18th Street. Jennie lost her husband Klaas on June 12, 1944. She died three years later on June 19, 1947. Her and Klaas are interred in Pilgrim Home cemetery.

Mrs. Jennie Cook, 85, died in her home 122 W 18th St., at 1:40 a.m. following a brief illness.

Surviving are two daughters, Mrs. Jack Vander Ploeg of Holland and Mrs. Fred Zoellner of Grand Rapids; a son, Peter Cook of Holland; six grandchildren, and three great grandchildren.

Funeral services will be held Saturday at 2 p.m. from Ver Lee Funeral Home with the Rev. M Vander Zwaag officiating. Burial will be in Pilgrim Home Cemetery. Friends may call at the funeral chapel until Friday noon when the body will be removed to the home.
