William Vincent Gillooly, retired coal miner, died this morning at 7:30 at his home on 208 S. Fifth St. Mr. Gillooly had been ill the past two weeks. He was 77 yrs. of age at the time. of death.
The Murphysboro resident was born in St. Louis, December 29, 1863, and moved to this city in 1869. He was married in Kentucky to Laura Adams. Mrs. Gillooly preceded him in death in November 1937.
Surviving children are an adopted daughter, Mable Sutton, Flint Michigan, and three gransons, Charles Jones of Murphysboro, Herbert and Kenneth Jones of Flint, Mich., and one granddaughter, Delphine Jones, of Flint, Mich.
Mr. Gillooly was a member of St. Andrews Catholic church. Members of the church will pray the rosary Friday night at 7:30 pm at the Roberts Funeral chapel, where the body will remain until services.
Interment will be made at St. Andrews Cemetery.
Vincent was one of three sons born to Patrick and Bridget (Devine)Gillooly of Ireland.
All were born in St. Louis, MO in the early 1860's. They and their mother Bridget moved to Murphysboro in 1869. We do not know any information on their father Patrick, nor any prior information on Bridget. We know her maiden name was Devine as stated on Vincent's death certificate.
