"Mr. David Lacy, an old and respected citizen, died at his home in the southwest part of town last Wednesday morning at 1 o'clock a.m. He was born in the state of North Carolina, June 25, 1818. He was a good husband, father and a kind neighbor. The funeral was preached at the M. E. church Friday at 1 o'clock p.m. the interment was at the Smith cemetery north of Milton. His remains were followed to their last resting place by many sorrowing friends and relatives. Julius and Lincoln, four daughters, Mrs. Margaret Jackson, Mrs. Sarah Brown, of Missouri, Miss Lou, of Washington, D.C., and Amanda at home were all at his bedside when he breathed his last, except Mrs. Brown. He had been sick less than a week with paralysis. All that could be done to save his life was willingly done but the Lord had need of him and He called him home.
