Winona Agnes (Wiese) Droll was born on Aug. 27, 1920, in Marshall County at Warren to Carl and Agnes (Puck) Wiese. Her mother passed away when she was three weeks old; thereafter she lived with her uncle and aunt, Juluis and Emma (Puck) Wiese of Round Lake. Winona frequently visited her father and brothers at Humboldt. She was baptized Aug. 11, 1935, in the Lutheran Faith at Mavie by Rev. E.W. Baumann, and confirmed May 31, 1936, at Sioux Valley Lutheran Church by Rev. Arnold A. Schultz. She graduated from Sioux Valley High School in May of 1938. She was married to Edward Leo Droll on Sept. 10, 1941, in Trinity Lutheran Church, Sioux Valley Township. They farmed in West Heron Lake Township, Jackson County, until Ed's retirement. Ed passed away on Oct. 1, 1977. She continued to live on the farm until 1996, when she moved to Homestead Cooperative in Worthington. In September 2009, she became a resident of Colonial Manor in Lakefield. She was a member of the St. Paul Lutheran Church in Rost Township, where she was a member of the LWML and a past Sunday school teacher. Other organizations she enjoyed were the West Heron Lake Home Extension Group and the River Bend Quilters Society. She was a loving, Christian mother and grandmother and enjoyed her family and friends as well as many hobbies, especially flower gardening, sewing, quilting, playing Scrabble, travel tours and researching family history.
