John Townsend married Elizabeth Shoemaker on April 11, 1811. John was a farmer and blacksmith. The Townsends were devout Christians, he being a ruling elder in the Poke Run Presbyterian Church. Both John and Elizabeth are buried in the cemetery beside this church.
John Townsend was the oldest son of Isaac and Rachel (King) Townsend. John had a brother William who also married an Elizabeth Shoemaker. The latter being of the Spring Church line.
